"I filled this exquisite melon basket with the most beautiful apples
I could find. The apples were from New Zealand and they were waxy
and brilliant in color. I placed the arrangement on top of an ornate
flowered cloth. I had never done a painting with the lighting directly
overhead. I painted a violet background so that it would recede slightly
and still have a warm tone."
